The Hirewick Job Board Is Live: We Found the Jobs Your Feed Never Showed You

A professional reacting with delight to a new remote job match on her laptop

Applying to jobs online has started to feel like buying a lottery ticket.

You find a role, tailor your CV, hit "Apply," and wait. For most people, nothing comes back. And the roles you never even see are a bigger problem than the ones you apply to.

Today we're announcing the Hirewick Job Board, built to fix both.

Where jobs are actually posted

Most job seekers look in one or two places, usually a big job board like the LinkedIn Jobs tab. You open it, filter by location and job type, and scroll. Many companies do hire this way, and we track those roles.

But any single platform is limited, and it's only part of the picture. A lot of hiring happens somewhere else: on the personal profiles of the people doing the hiring, in communities and group chats, and through plain word of mouth.

A recruiter, a founder, or a team lead writes a post: "We're hiring a Customer Success Manager. Apply at this link." No listing on the company's job page. No paid promotion. Just a post on their personal profile, hoping the right people see it.

And that's the catch. Whether you see that post depends on the algorithm and on whether you're connected to that person. If you don't follow them and aren't in their network, it may never cross your feed at all.

Why "just engage and comment" isn't enough

We're grateful to everyone who writes helpful posts, comments and reshares to boost reach. It genuinely helps.

But reach is unpredictable, and it favors people who are already well connected. You can do everything right and still miss an opportunity simply because you didn't know the right person or weren't online at the right moment. That's not a fair way to find work, especially for people building careers outside the big hiring hubs.

The numbers show how crowded the front door is

For the roles that are in the Jobs tab, the competition is intense:

  • The average job opening now attracts around 242 applications, which works out to roughly a 0.4% chance for any single applicant. (Business Insider data, cited by Novorésumé, Feb 2026)
  • Glassdoor has reported that the average opening gets about 250 resumes, and only 4 to 6 of those applicants are called for an interview.
  • In the US, the number of applicants per open role on LinkedIn has doubled since spring 2022. (SocialBee's 2026 roundup of LinkedIn data)
  • LinkedIn now sees roughly 10,000 to 11,000 job applications every minute, and the New York Times reported that volume jumped about 45% in a single year, largely because of generative AI tools. One HR consultant reported receiving over 1,200 applications for a single remote role.

A lot of hiring never touches a job board

The flip side of a crowded front door is a side door most people never use. Estimates commonly say that 70 to 80% of jobs are never publicly advertised and get filled through referrals and networking instead. To be upfront, that range is a widely repeated industry estimate rather than a precise measurement. The often-quoted 85% figure traces back to a single non-scientific survey from 2015/16, so we don't lean on it.

The better-documented numbers all point the same way:

  • Referrals make up only about 7% of applicants but 30 to 50% of hires in the US. (Zippia; National University hiring statistics, via The Interview Guys)
  • One analysis of 4.5 million applications found referred candidates were about 7x more likely to be hired than job board applicants. (Pinpoint, via The Interview Guys)
  • In a LinkedIn survey, over 70% of respondents said they were hired at a company where they already had a connection. (Novorésumé)

The takeaway: who you know, and whether a post ever reaches you, matters a lot. That's the gap we're closing.

Now compare that to a role posted on a recruiter's personal profile, where you can see who wrote it and message them directly. Career coach Steve Dalton has noted that around 40% of messages to hiring contacts get a response, which beats the odds of an application sitting in a queue.

So we go through everything

That's why the Hirewick Job Board doesn't rely on any single platform. We research every nook and cranny of the internet, across each of our networks, and through word of mouth, for any available role. Our infrastructure is built to make sure nothing worth finding slips through. That includes:

  • Roles on job boards and company career pages, including LinkedIn Jobs.
  • Roles posted on personal profiles by recruiters, hiring managers and founders, the ones you'd likely never see.
  • Roles that circulate through our networks and by word of mouth, which often never appear on a public listing at all.

Then we read and verify each role on the posting itself so you're not wasting time on expired or fake listings. Then we organize it so you don't have to dig:

  • 100% full remote: every role on the board is fully remote.
  • Only fresh roles: we post jobs published in the last 7 days, and nothing older, so you're never applying to a listing that's been sitting there for weeks.
  • Sorted by region: some roles are open to anywhere in the world, while others are tied to a region or specific countries. Each one is labeled so you know before you click where you can work from.
  • Salary shown where available.
  • A short description for each role, so you can decide in seconds.
  • Direct apply links, so you go straight to the posting and can also reach out to the person behind it where possible.

This week on the board

This week's board has 50 full-remote jobs from 44 companies, all posted between 22 and 28 September 2026:

  • 19 open to anywhere in the world
  • 23 based in the US
  • 8 country-specific roles in Africa (South Africa and Nigeria)

23 of the 50 list their pay right in the posting, and the roles run from entry level to director and above, so there's something for most stages of a career. Come back weekly, because the board refreshes with a new batch of roles.

How to get the most out of it

  • Filter by region and work setup to narrow to roles that fit.
  • Read the description and check the salary before you invest time.
  • Apply through the link, then message the poster where you can. Mention the role and one specific reason you fit. Keep it short and respectful, since some hiring managers prefer the formal process.
  • Follow up once, politely, after about a week.
